School Health Program in Bangalore, India

The School Health Program is defined as “the school procedures that contribute to the maintenance and improvement of the health of pupils and school personnel including health services healthful living and health education”.
Childhood is the age of learning and it is the time when a child start developing practices and attitude towards health. It is very important to target the children for oral health awareness and demonstration of correct methods for oral hygiene.

School is considered as place for learning where children learn not only subjective knowledge but also life style practices and health seeking behaviors.
It has been proven that schools can provide an ideal platform for the promotion of oral health. At the global level, approximately 80% of children attend primary schools and 60% complete at least four years of education, with wide variation between countries and gender. They can be nurtured well for their general and oral health and can very well be implemented effectively.
A health promoting school is one that constantly strengthens its capacity as a healthy setting for living, learning and working.

World No Tobacco Day 2012

World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is commemorated on 31 May every year. The theme for this year’s (2012) WNTD is “Tobacco Industry Interference”.

tobacco
World No Tobacco Day 2012
The campaign focuses on the need to expose and counter the tobacco industry's brazen and increasingly aggressive attempts to undermine the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC).

World No Tobacco Day 2012 will educate policy-makers and the general public about the tobacco industry's harmful tactics.

It will also be in keeping with the letter and the spirit of the WHO FCTC. The preamble of the treaty recognizes "the need to be alert to any efforts by the tobacco industry to undermine or subvert tobacco control efforts and the need to be informed of activities of the tobacco industry that have a negative impact on tobacco control efforts".

On World No Tobacco Day 2012, and throughout the rest of the year, WHO will urge countries to put the fight against tobacco industry interference at the heart of their efforts to control the global tobacco epidemic.

Tobacco's Deadly Seduction :- Women!

Awareness about ill effects of Tobacco

Tobacco's Deadly Seduction :- Women!

Tobacco use among women is rising. Without governments taking action to reduce smoking, the worldwide women's smoking rate is expected to rise to 20 percent by 2025 from a rate of 9.3 percent 2007.
  • Increases in tobacco use are the result of changes in the role and economic status of women as economies grow, as well as changes in social and cultural factors as nations modernize.
  • However, the direct, aggressive marketing of tobacco targeted to women is the driving factor in increased tobacco use by women seen around the world.
  • The tobacco industry targets women and girls with aggressive and seductive advertising that exploits ideas of independence, emancipation, sex appeal, slimness, glamour and beauty. Tobacco companies design products to specifically appeal to women, such as flavored cigarettes and fashionable packaging.
  • smoking
    Health Programs
  • Even in countries where tobacco use by women is low, women are disproportionately exposed to secondhand smoke in the home and workplaces. Of all deaths attributable to secondhand smoke, 64 percent occur among women.
  • Effective policies must be adopted to reduce tobacco use among women and protect women from secondhand smoke.
  • By curtailing tobacco marketing, adopting strong health pack warnings, increasing the price of tobacco products, expanding protection against secondhand smoke and carrying out effective public education campaigns, the predicted epidemic of tobacco-related illness and death among women around the world will be prevented.
