The School Health Program consists of the following;

1. Health screening of students for height, weight, skin, eye, dental, speech and hearing, cardiac, oral lesions, facial deformities, and others.,
2. Facilitating medical intervention for those shortlisted through the pre-screening
3. Imparting awareness on health issues,adolescent health, hand-washing, ill effects of tobacco and tooth brushing techniques to the students.

Sight test and glasses could dramatically improve the lives of children with poor vision

A simple sight test and eyeglasses could make a dramatic difference to the lives of more than 150 million people who are suffering from poor vision. Children fail at school, adults are unable to work and families are pushed into poverty as a result of uncorrected visual impairment.

Free Spectacles provided by Trinity Care Foundation to students in low-income schools in Karnataka state, India. 

Correction of refractive errors is a simple and cost-effective intervention in eye care,” said Dr Serge Resnikoff, Coordinator of WHO’s Chronic Disease Prevention and Management unit. “Now that we know the extent of the problem of uncorrected refractive errors, especially in low and middle income countries, we must re-double our efforts to ensure that every person who needs help is able to receive it.”

Refractive errors occur when the eye is not able to correctly focus images on the retina. The result is blurred vision, which is sometimes so severe that it creates functional blindness for affected individuals. The three most common refractive errors are:

1. Myopia (nearsightedness) – this is difficulty in seeing distant objects clearly.
2. Hyperopia also known as Hypermetropia (farsightedness) – this is difficulty is seeing close objects clearly.
3. Astigmatism – This is distorted vision resulting from an irregularly curved cornea.

Goals for the Outreach Program

Outreach Program is a community-based program targeted to improve outreach and service delivery in local and regional rural communities.  The goals for the Outreach Program are the following:

1. Expand the delivery of health care services to include new and enhanced services exclusively in rural communities 
2. Deliver health care services through a strong consortium, in which every consortium member organization is actively involved and engaged in the planning and delivery of services 
3. Utilize and/or adapt an evidence-based or promising practice model(s) in the delivery of health care services 
4. Improve population health, demonstrate health outcomes and sustainability 

Proposed projects will have an outcomes-oriented approach that will enhance and sustain the delivery of effective health care in rural communities.  Proposed projects will be grounded in an evidence-based or promising practice model(s) in order to avoid “reinventing the wheel”.

Projects based on an evidence-based or promising practice model have shown to be effective in addressing the community’s need, improving the health status of its residents and sustaining the project beyond Federal funding.  Outreach projects can take the framework or methodology of an evidence-based or promising practice model and tailor it to their community’s need and organization.

Corporate Social Responsibility/CSR first evolved with big manufacturing companies focusing on programmes relating to health, education and sanitation aimed at the local community where the company's factories were located. This was followed by CSR by FMCG companies who embarked on brand-led initiatives like laundry projects or a farm to fork initiative aimed at plugging supply chain inefficiencies. Healthy School Program in Bangalore

Last year 2016-17, as part of Healthy School Project, Trinity Care Foundation provided Free Health Check-ups, Health education, referral services and follow-ups and Health kits to 12,600 plus underprivileged children studying in Government Schools in Karnataka state, India.. School Health Program | 2017-2018 internship

Trinity Care Foundation calls for healthcare professionals who are genuinely interested to travel, learn and work in Government Schools in Bangalore,Karnataka.

The internship is open to Doctors and Medical Interns . Above all, we welcome those with curiosity to explore and humility to learn.

Languages: English, for those interested to work, ability to converse in Kannada is an added advantage .

Ensure eye care for all

WHO South-East Asia has 140 million visually impaired people. The Region has an estimated 12 million blind people, 8 million of them in India. More than 50% of all blindness is caused by cataract which accounts for 33% of visual impairment. Uncorrected refractive errors are responsible for 43% of the visual impairment in the Region. About 65% of the visually impaired people are 50 –year old and above.

These statistics should be viewed against the fact that 80% of visual impairment is avoidable. And that the blindness prevention strategies and restoration of sight are among the most cost-effective interventions in health care.

To reduce avoidable blindness and visual impairment, we must ensure universal access to comprehensive eye care services. There is a need to review and reinforce existing measures so that nobody suffers visual impairment and those with unavoidable vision loss can still achieve their full potential. World Sight Day on 8 October will focus on ‘eye care for all’.

The WHO Global Action Plan (GAP) for the Prevention of Avoidable Blindness and Visual Impairment 2014-2019, emphasises on improving eye health for everyone and reducing the prevalence of avoidable blindness and visual impairment by 25% by the year 2019.

Implementing simple measures such as eye care services in schools can help detect and correct refractive errors in children. And quality surgical procedures can help cataract patients get back to normal lifestyle very quickly.

Medical Check-up is only the initial step in a great scheme of progress which involves the improvement of not only the physical but the mental and moral development of the children.

Generally it is seen that most of the students in the school suffer from many preventable diseases such as decay of tooth, bad sight, deafness, anemia etc. but such diseases adversely affect the learning capacity of the students and cause ill health.

School Health Internship

Trinity Care Foundation calls for female interns who are genuinely interested to travel, learn and work in Government Schools in Bangalore,Karnataka.

The internship offers a rare opportunity to work hands-on in schools, learn from pubic health professionals and help those in need of medical attention. The work will focus on issues pertaining to school students and cover health check-up, eye check-up, dental check-up, dental treatment and health education. The internship is for 1 month. 

Eligibility

The internship is open to Doctor, Dentists and Students [ Medical & Dental ] of Indian origin. Ability to converse in the local language is a must. Above all, we welcome those with curiosity to explore and humility to learn.

Location: Bangalore,Karnataka
Languages: For those interested to work, ability to converse in Kannada is required.
Duration: Nov 18-Dec 18, 2015

Type of work

The team will cover a minimum of 15 government schools in outskirt's of Bangalore, and undertake the following activities:

• Pre-screening of students for overall health, eye-care,CHD, dental caries, oral lesions, facial deformities, etc., 
• Facilitating medical intervention for those shortlisted through the pre-screening
• Impart awareness on health issues, ill effects of tobacco and tooth brushing techniques to students of government schools.
• Undertake training for teachers and health workers to carry forward the work.

Orientation for interns : Selected interns for Karnataka will have to attend a day orientation program in Bengaluru on Nov 11.

Last date for application: Bangalore, Karnataka : Nov 9, 2015

We will organize for the intern’s travel and food during the period of internship.Certificates will be provided to those who have successfully completed the internship.

Outreach Health Program @ Villages in Bagepalli Taluk

Trinity Care Foundation is organizing a Multi- Specialty Health Camp at 2 Interior Villages of Bagepalli Taluk, Karnataka, India in association with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Health & Family Welfare Department, Karnataka Government on Saturday, 14-March-2015 between 10:30 am and 3:00 pm.

Outreach Health Program in Kondareddypalli Village

On the 06- December -2014, Trinity Care Foundation conducted a Free Multi-Speciality Health camp in Kondareddypalli Village, Bagepalli Taluk, Chickaballapura District, Karnataka, India for the General Public in and around Kondareddypalli Village.

 Trinity Care Foundation worked in conjunction with Government Officials from Health Department and Gram Panchayat Members to organize this event . This was Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited { HAL }, Bangalore. 

Health Workers from villages were directed in advance to inform in their respective villages about the Health camp. In order to spread awareness about the camp, the foundation organized press releases in local newspapers and also put up posters in and around several villages.

Trinity Care Foundation distributed Free medicines, conducted RBS Test, ECG & ECHO. A referral for Eye care, Cancer, Cardiac and School Health Program system is in Place.  834 Individuals were examined for various Health Issues. 

Corporate Social Responsibility is a management concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and interactions with their stakeholders. CSR is generally understood as being the way through which a company achieves a balance of economic, environmental and social imperatives (“Triple-Bottom-Line- Approach”), while at the same time addressing the expectations of shareholders and stakeholders. In this sense it is important to draw a distinction between CSR, which can be a strategic business management concept, and charity, sponsorship’s or philanthropy. Even though the latter can also make a valuable contribution to poverty reduction, will directly enhance the reputation of a company and strengthen its brand, the concept of CSR clearly goes beyond that.
